又到了一年的端午佳节，赛龙舟、包粽子、吃粽子……今天和大家分享端午节相关的英语。
01. Dragon Boat Festival
“赛龙舟”是端午节的传统，英语中直接把“龙舟”作为节日的名称：
- Dragon Boat Festival: 端午节
英语中用来表示“船”的词有很多：
- Boat: 船
- Ship: 船，舰
Ship通常比较大，例如供度假的大型游轮 cruise ship，集装箱运货船 container ship。
其实划船运动在北美普及度很高：
- Canoe: 划艇。单桨，通常2人以上划
- Kayak: 皮艇。双头桨，通常1-2人划
02. Dragon Boat Racing
龙舟在北美也非常受欢迎，人们把它当做强身健体的一项运动，很多大学都有自己的龙舟队：
- Dragon boat racing is a canoe-sport.
讲到船、飞机相关的整个team（团队），通常会称之为：
- The crew: 全体船员，全体机组人员
- The aircraft has/carries a crew of seven.这架飞机上有7名机组人员。
英语中划船的工具和划的动作都叫做“paddle”。
- Paddlers: 桨手
龙舟赛的特色之一就是鼓舞士气（morale）和掌握节奏（rhythm）的鼓手：
- Drummer or caller: 鼓手
- Steerer: 舵手
汽车的方向盘也用到了这个词 steering wheel。
03. Zongzi
端午节必不可少的就是粽子，这也是我们第 n 次说到它，英语中“第 n 次”可以说 the nth time。
- Be wrapped in: 被…包裹着
- Reed leaves: 芦苇叶
Zongzi (Chinese: 粽子) is a traditional Chinese rice dish made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves and sometimes, with reed leaves, or other large flat leaves. They are cooked by steaming or boiling.
粽子在英语中没有完全对应的说法，类似这样的点心很多时候都会被翻译为dumpling：
- Rice dumplings / sticky rice dumplings: 粽子
In the Western world, they are also known as rice dumplings or sticky rice dumplings.
为了纪念爱国诗人屈原，人们在这一天将粽子投入江中，而吃粽子这一传统也被代代相传。
According to legend, packets of rice were thrown into the river to prevent the fish from eating the poet Qu Yuan body.
04. Making Zongzi
- Making zongzi: 做粽子
- Making zongzi from scratch: 自己做粽子
Making something from scratch 就是指从零开始，一切都由自己来做
The shapes of zongzi vary. Wrapping zongzi neatly is a skill that is passed down through families, as are the recipes. Making zongzi is traditionally a family event of which everyone helps out.
05. Flavors
蛋黄、豆沙、鲜肉……这些都可以作为粽子的原料：
- Ingredients: 原料，组成部分
各种各样的粽子有不同的口味：
- Flavors: 口味
- Sweet: 甜的
- Savory: 咸的
如果你形容某个食物“salty”，说明它太咸了。
