我们可以先看看 breadth 这个字，breadth (n.) 宽度既然知道 breadth 的中文了，a hair's breadth 的意思就很明显了吧？没错，就是千钧一发或是十分靠近的意思。(话说一根头发到底多宽呢？)
▶ A: I heard that Tom was sent to the hospital due to a heart attack. I hope he's okay now.听说 Tom 昨天因为心脏病送医院，希望他现在没事了！
▶ B: You're right. Fortunately, he was sent to the hospital in time. He came within a hair's breadth to losing his life.没错，所幸他及时被送往医院，才捡回了一条小命。

头发坏掉的一天？所以是像我一样发质很差吗？(误，事实上美国人认为一整天顶着披头散发或蓬头垢面在外，会使人的心情受到影响，办事效率也会变差，所以后来这句话就被引申为「诸事不顺的一天」。)
▶A: OK, that's it!好，我受够了。
▶B: What's wrong?怎么了吗？
▶ A: My boss assigned me too much work again. Doesn't he know it's Friday? It's really a bad hair day for me.我的老板又指派给我一堆工作，难道他不知道今天是礼拜五吗？今天真是够了。

curl (n.) 卷曲 / (v.) 使卷曲
把一个人的头发用卷？这当然不只能是设计师的特权，在英文中，把一个人的头发弄卷，代表你吓着他了，这和中文里吓到「汗毛直竖」是不是有几分类似呢？
▶ A: Have you seen The Conjuring 2? Is it actually horrifying?你去看厉阴宅2了吗？真的很恐怖吗？
▶ B: Of course I have. It absolutely curled my hair.我当然去看啦，真是吓死我啦。

get gray hair from sb/sth
从字面上的意思是「从某人或某事得到灰头发」，猜得出来吗？没错，中文也有类似用法喔！因为某件事物白了头发，代表对这件事或人非常担心，以致于一夜白了头，是不是非常生动呢？中国古人伍子胥过昭关时也有类似的故事喔！
▶ A: Come on! It's the weekend. Why lock yourself in the library? Let's hang out!别闹了！现在是周末耶！干嘛把自己关在图书馆里，我们出去晃晃吧！
▶ B: Believe me, I really want to. But I get gray hair from my final exam because I've skipped too many classes.相信我，我很想跟你去，但我翘了太多课，以致于我现在非常担心我的期末考。
■ 类似的用法还有give someone/something gray hair. 给某人或某事白头发也是形容对某件事物非常担心的意思。

hair of the dog (that bit)
会咬人的狗的狗毛又代表什么意义呢？事实上，这来自于美国的一个典故，他们认为将会咬人的狗的狗毛放置在被咬的伤口上，如此就可以避免再度受到同样的伤害。后来被引申应用在人在宿醉之后，需要再来一杯酒来缓解宿醉的症状。是不是很类似中文里的「以毒攻毒」呢？暑假到了，三五好友小酌后的隔天，不妨在隔天来一杯 hair of the dog 吧！
▶ A: It's Friday. Let's get some drink!星期五到了！让我们出去喝一杯吧！
▶ B: Are you serious? You just came back, you were dead drunk. Besides, it's Saturday!你是认真的吗？你才刚回来而且你已经醉了，然后今天是礼拜六了！
▶ A: Fine, I'll stay at home. But would you please get me a cup of whiskey? A hair of the dog would help, you know.好吧，那我会待在家，但可以请你再给我一杯威士忌吗，我需要一杯酒解宿醉，你懂的。

harm a hair on someone's head
harm (v.) (n.) 伤害；危害
伤到某人头上的一根毛发代表什么呢？就像中文里的「伤到一根寒毛」，因此当我们说 don't harm a hair on her head! (别伤害到她任何一根寒毛) 也就是别想伤害她的意思。若想要表示我们很宝贝或想要保护某个人时，都可以利用这一句话喔！各位贴心的男朋友们，多多利用这一句话来取悦女友吧！
